I would say even though this book is not as steamy as some other more recent romance releases, it was still full of tension and heart (and still some R-rated scenes, don’t get me wrong!). Elissa Sussman also has a natural talent at writing funny and clever dialogue. How they broke into the business how they wrote scripts (and where they got their ideas) what it was like to work on hits-and on flops what. This oral history of television sitcom writing offers the perspectives of 22 of the best and most prolific early comedy writers. She was incredible smart and independent and one of the most relatable romance characters I’ve encountered in a while. : Oral Histories of Classic Sitcom Storytellers. Mostly, I really appreciated Chani as a leading lady. But “Funny You Should Ask” does a great job of balancing the two and using the two time periods to really develop the characters and not just set up a major misunderstanding. Did I end up really enjoying it? Also yes! I was pleasantly surprised by the past and present format of the book, sometimes I find those types of romance books to be underwhelming.
